Project Overview
Our team recently completed a stunning block paved patio installation in Rayleigh, Essex, transforming an overgrown garden area into smart and practical outdoor space. The customer wanted a low maintenance area that could be used for relaxing and entertaining, while still blending naturally with the existing garden.
Before & After:
Before: The garden was overgrown and cluttered, with an unused raised bed taking up valuable space and making the area difficult to maintain.
After: It’s now been transformed into a beautifully laid block paved patio with neat charcoal edging, creating a clean, modern, and low maintenance outdoor space perfect for relaxing or entertaining.
Project Steps:
1. Site Clearance: The project began with the full removal of overgrown plants, roots, and shrubs that had taken over the raised sections of the garden.
2. Excavation & Ground Preparation: Once cleared, we excavated the area to the correct depth and installed a compacted Type 1 sub-base to provide a strong foundation for the new patio.
3. Brickwork & Edging: The existing raised wall was tidied up and adjusted to perfectly frame the new patio area, while charcoal border blocks were added for a clean, defined edge.
4. Block Paving Installation: The patio surface was laid using red and charcoal block paving in a herringbone pattern, chosen for its classic, timeless appearance and durability.
5. Finishing Touches: After laying, the joints were kiln-dried and compacted for a stable, long-lasting finish. The surrounding soil was levelled off, ready for replanting or turfing.
Conclusion:
The finished patio completely revitalised the garden, creating a stylish and easy-to-maintain seating area that connects beautifully with the existing lawn and pathways. The warm red tones paired with charcoal edging add a touch of character and contrast, making the space both functional and visually appealing.
