Project Overview
Our team recently completed a block paved patio installation at a residential property in Canvey Island, Essex. The client wanted to replace an overgrown, uneven garden area with a modern and low maintenance outdoor space that would be practical and stylish all year round. We designed and installed a beautiful light grey block paving patio with a contrasting dark border for a clean and contemporary look.
Before & After:
Before: The existing garden area was covered in patchy grass and old paving slabs, with an uneven surface that made it difficult to use. The homeowners wanted a more usable space where they could relax and entertain outdoors with minimal maintenance.
After: The finished patio completely transformed the rear garden – providing a neat, level, and durable surface that’s ideal for outdoor furniture, gatherings, and everyday use. The light grey tones and charcoal borders complement the property beautifully, enhancing both its appearance and usability.
Project Steps:
1. Ground Preparation: The old slabs and turf were removed, and the area was excavated to the required depth.
2. Sub-Base Installation: A new MOT type 1 hardcore base was laid and compacted to ensure a solid and long-lasting foundation.
3. Edge Restraints: Concrete edging kerbs were installed around the perimeter to define the patio and provide structural strength.
4. Laying the Blocks: A sharp sand screed layer was added, followed by the installation of light grey block pavers in a herringbone pattern. A charcoal border was used to frame the design and add a touch of contrast.
5. Jointing & Finishing: Kiln-dried sand was brushed into the joints, and the surface was compacted to lock the blocks securely in place. The area was cleaned and tidied, leaving the client with a perfect finish.
