This project in Hornchurch was a fantastic example of how a modern surfacing solution can completely revitalise the front of a traditional property, adding instant kerb appeal and functionality.
Before & After: A Clean & Contemporary Upgrade
Before: The existing driveway was made up of worn, uneven crazy paving. Over time, it had become tired, dated, and difficult to maintain. The surface was uneven and prone to weeds, which detracted significantly from the home’s otherwise charming appearance.
After: The finished driveway is a seamless expanse of stunning grey resin-bound aggregate. Framed by a sharp, dark block border, the new surface is clean, modern, and perfectly complements the property’s features. It has created a practical, low-maintenance, and visually impressive entrance that completely updates the look of the home.
Project Steps: Methodical and Meticulous
Transforming this driveway required a thorough and precise process to ensure a flawless, long-lasting finish.
1. Excavation and Site Preparation: The first step was to break up and remove the old crazy paving and underlying material. Using a mini digger, we excavated the entire area to the required depth, creating a clean slate and ensuring there were no weak points in the foundation.
2. Laying the New Edging and Sub-Base: With the ground cleared, we installed a smart, charcoal-coloured block paver border around the entire perimeter. This not only frames the new driveway beautifully but also provides a strong, stable edge restraint. Following this, we laid and compacted a full MOT Type 1 sub-base to create a solid and permeable foundation.
3. Preparing the Resin Base: A layer of sand was spread and compacted over the sub-base. This was then meticulously levelled and compacted with a plate compactor to ensure a perfectly smooth and even surface, which is crucial for the final resin application.
4. Applying the Resin-Bound Surface: The final stage was the application of the resin-bound system. The high-quality grey aggregate was thoroughly mixed with the clear resin binder and then expertly trowelled by hand across the entire driveway. Our skilled team worked meticulously to achieve a seamless, uniform finish with no trowel marks, resulting in a durable and stunning surface.
